everyone and their dog
I've decided that everyone and their dog has written a children's book or knows someone who has. And they all have no comprehension of how much illustrations cost nor how the industry works. Have any of you guys ran into some of those? I really don't know how to respond. The last one I heard I almost started laughing out loud. Well, I did start laughing actually, I just tried to hide it.

Yeah, when I tell people I'm an illustrator, I get a lot of "Great! When I finish my book you can do the cover!" comments.. I just kinda smile and nod.

It's true, everybody has a children's book they want to write. It's like a secret fantasy that everyone shares.
I agree with the secret fantasy part, I laughed out loaud when I read this one, if I had a dollar for everytime someone had said that to me I would be rich
I've run into (minimum) 8 people who have said they're working on a children's book and would I be interested in illustrating it. My response is generally, "Finish writing it and get back to me... and we'll see. With no promises. So far only one of them has gotten back to me. I'm using the book illustrations for my B.F.A. (Kill two birds with one stone). I think David's right. Everyone's got a book of some kind bottled up in them waiting to be written. I've got about 2 dozen.
(P.S.) Rebecca, my daughter Abbey saw your illustration and said, "I like the dog this much, and stretched her arms as wide as she could reach. She's five.
